[NEW YORK, NY] Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) today released a new data collection guide through its National Resource Center on LGBT Aging to help providers collect the information they need to better understand and serve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults. Inclusive Questions for Older Adults: A Practical Guide to Collecting Data on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity is a comprehensive guide that helps service providers ask questions about sexual orientation and gender identity in a safe and respectful way.

[New York, NY] Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) announced today that four organizations serving older people of color are the newest partners of its National Resource Center on LGBT Aging: the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA); the National Caucus and Center on Black Aged, Inc. (NCBA), the National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) and the Southeast Asia Resource Action Center (SEARAC). These prestigious organizations join SAGE and the 10 original partner organizations, and together represent a growing majority of older people throughout the country—lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults; elders of color; and poor and low-income older adults. The National Resource Center on LGBT Aging, led by SAGE, is the country’s first and only technical assistance resource center aimed at improving the quality of services and supports offered to LGBT older adults.

The site, launched in October 2010, has been evolving over time as the most comprehensive centralized clearinghouse of online resources for and about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults nationwide. SAGE is launching this new information to mark National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day, a campaign to draw attention to the specialized needs of adults age 50 and over who are living with HIV and AIDS.

HHS Awards Major Grant to SAGE to Create First-Ever National Resource Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Elders

[NEW YORK, NY] - Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and the Administration on Aging have awarded Services & Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Elders (SAGE) a three-year, $900,000 grant to create the nation's only national resource center on LGBT aging. The National Technical Assistance Resource Center for LGBT Elders will assist communities across the country in their efforts to provide services and supports for older LGBT people. The Resource Center will provide training to aging service providers and LGBT agencies nationwide, and will offer critically important educational tools to LGBT older people.
