““… [T]he very policies and practices promoted by the HEI can themselves provide a framework for thinking about an organization’s commitment to LGBT inclusion and care. Very basic changes can certainly have a dramatic impact.””

The Healthcare Equality Index is an annual survey of healthcare policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender patients and their families. This report details the results of the 2011 survey, outlining the information provided by 87 survey respondents. Even though in comparison to last year's survey there has been improvement by several organization in respect to training initiatives and other policies, much more needs to be done to ensure that all agencies become culturally competent to the needs of LGBT patients.
