"Many people are surprised when you find out that there is no 'one stop' process for getting your name and/or gender updated to match your gender identity."

This guide provides details on how people can petition to change their name and gender in California on various state and Federal documents, including information regarding the Social Security Administration, U.S. Passport Agency, Department of Motor Vehicles, and birth certificates. While it is designed to be used without the assistance of an attorney, in some cases, it may be quickest and easiest to work with one.
