"Unfortunately, LGBT housing rights are not federally protected. Currently, 16 jurisdictions prohibit discrimination on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, and another four jurisdictions protect against Sexual Orientation but not Gender Identity."

This document lists the states that have policies that ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and or gender identity/expression and how those laws may be useful in a housing context. It also suggest what steps can be done by those who were discriminated by unfair housing practices.

In order to ensure that LGBT older adults in San Francisco area remain independent and not go back into the "closet," it is important to create housing options for them.
